FOOD 4 THOUGHT RESPONSE: WHY ARE PPL SO JUDEMENTAL?

ONLY GOD CAN JUDGE ME

A few weeks ago I read an article in Clutch, one of my favorite online magazines, titled "Casting the first stone: Why are people so judgmental?" and I wanted to stand up and clap as if the writer had just performed the words on a stage. Everything she said rang so true to my ears!
In a small sum up the articled talked about how although we all make mistakes, and we KNOW we all make mistakes we still pour our judgments onto others in a blink of an eye. The question was raised why are we so judgmental? The writer Britni Danielle gave us a synopsis of what she believed to be the reason, stating that it's easier in life to see the fault in others than to deal with the fault in your own life. She also goes on to talk about how whenever two individuals have a difference of opinion instead talking about the issue personal characters are attacked. This is a part that stood out to me:

"Don’t get me wrong, I love opinions. Prompting a sincere discussion about a topic is one of the reasons I love to write. There is nothing more fulfilling than learning something new from a reader (or anyone) who took the time to share their point of view. So opinions are not the enemy, we are all entitled to our own. But when expressing our opinions on a particular subject devolves into name-calling and irrational curse-outs, there’s something definitely wrong."

Yes there's something definitely wrong with us, and though we may not realize it, passing judgment is ultimately crippling ourselves. The writer goes on to discuss how the behavior of judging hindered her ability to be vulnerable with the people close to her, to deter them from thinking of her as weak or not as together as she seemed, so that they wouldn't judge her. Something I could closely relate to.
Something that we do so much, almost without thought, is creating the inability to be close to those around us. I experience it everyday unable to let people in because I am seen as a strong person never phased by a setback or hindrance. In actually I would not be human if that was the case.
We often judge out of ignorance and when we haven't gone through something or understand it we can easily make assumptions. The more you experience in life, the more lessons you learn and those lessons should not only apply to what you do but how you think of others in a situation. I mean the saying is a simple as they come "Put yourself in the other persons shoes" no really do it, not the "if it was me" speech but really for once allow yourself to look outside of that which you are and then maybe your perspective would be different entirely. In order to stop judging one another we must first understand one another. Just something to think about.

FOOD 4 THOUGHT: Can a Male and Female be Bestfriends?

CAN A MALE AND A FEMALE BE BEST FRIENDS?

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Barriers in society are being broken daily. More women are becoming CEO's and Firefighters, and more men becoming stay at home dads and RN's. In addition we are also seeing changes in the dynamic of friendships between males and females. Which raises the question, can a male and female be best friends? It seems as though everyone I talk to has a different opinion on the matter and feel strongly about it. Some say that it is completely possible for a male and a female to be best friends and others say that the friendship will always turn into more than just a "friend"ship. Instead of deciding on a simple answer I decided to dig deeper and do some research based on what my peers and professionals said and I concluded some interesting findings.

In my mind I naturally wanted to assume that yes males and females can be best friend but if I said I was sure of that it wouldn't be the truth. The answer seems all about variables. One of those "it just depends" scenarios and that rings true here. Lets look at both sides:

An article on psychologytoday.com stated that it is in fact possible for this to occur but that the friendship faces different obstacles than a same-sex friendship would. Among those challenges were defining the relationship and dealing with doubters. When Becoming friends with the opposite sex things can get confusing quickly especially if the two individuals are attracted to one another. That's why in order to avoid complications in the relationship you define exactly the guidelines of your friendship so that no party ends up confused or expecting more. The hardest part would be dealing with the doubters "Are you really just friends?" is a common question, it also suggests that society is not ready for friendships between men and women. These constant questions often have the affect on the two individuals in the friendship questioning themselves and if they really are just friends based on the ideas being drilled into there heads by peers, which otherwise would not have been their if outside opinions weren't involved.

Studies show the benefits of a having a best friend of the opposite sex for males was having someone to talk to and relate to on a personal level, verses bonding with other males through activities such as sport or organizations. Woman said the friendships are lighter and more fun because men aren't as sensitive to things and they receive the male perspective on things which they can't from female friends. Both sexes said that these friendships are more emotionally rewarding. Kathy Werking, Author of We're just Good Friends said that her work has shown that the number one thing male and female friends do is talk one-on-one.

Although these finds prove to be true their is still some doubt. Some believe that a male and a female referring to each other as best friends is simply hiding behind the title to avoid the complications of a real relationship. Also stating that the majority of the time their counter-parts posses the same traits and qualities they would look for in a spouse. Often these lines become blurred resulting in action. In a study 62% of people admitted to having a platonic friendship that crossed the line and became romantic or sexual. However, the majority of the same percentage of people said the friendship still did not result in a relationship after the line was crossed. BUT those same 94% said that their best friend would make a great relationship partner for them. Interesting.

As you can see it can easily go both ways and really depends on each unique individual relationship between to whether it be platonic or simply hindering something more that is beneath the surface. The only way for that to be decided is between the two individuals involved. Yet, a question is still plaguing me. Is it some type of rule that states a person can only have one title in your life? Why can't your best friend be your significant other simultaneously? And if someone does serve best as your best friend then what is the rush in forcing things to be more than what they are if supposedly you two will be brought together anyway? I certainly hope the person I marry someday is someone who knows me best.

In light of this post I must admit my best friend is indeed a male and I agree with the majority of the things stated above on both sides of the argument. I don't know about in general all I know is that my relationship with my best friend is far to valuable for me to question it continually and I would rather just enjoy it because good friends of either sex are hard to come by and the pros far outway the cons for me.With that said I leave you with this quote from Dave Mathews Band a friend of mine told me long ago. "A girl and a guy can be friends, but at one point or another, they will fall for each other, maybe TEMPORARILY, maybe at THE WRONG TIME, maybe TOO LATE, or maybe FOREVER." Just something to think about.

FOOD 4 THOUGHT: Are You as REAL as you think?

Are You as REAL as you think?

Re·al /ˈri[ree-uhl, reel] genuine; not counterfeit, artificial, or imitation; authentic. Fake [feyk] something specious, deceptive, or fraudulent. Everybody wants to be considered real or self proclaim that they are, and no one wants to be bashed for being fake. But how do you distinguish between the two? How do you really know if someone is real or fake? Recently I discovered that the definitions I had of what makes someone real and how to be able to tell a real individual were all wrong. I always thought that if you were straight up blunt with people, saying things others wouldn’t say, and could tell someone about themselves in the blink of an eye. Oh you’re real! Uhh WRONG. When I asked the question on my twitter what goes along with being real. A fellow blogger at reddlipstick.blogspot.com said something that really got me thinking, Loyalty. Loyalty plays such a large part in being real because so many people are called faked because another party feels as though they haven’t been loyal to them in a sense. Being real starts with being honest with yourself and using that judgment to decide how you deal with others. Sometimes you have to check yourself and be like okay, I’m trying to justify this but I know I’m wrong. I know I’m doing some sneaky stuff and it’s not right because I know so-in-so would feel a certain way about it. The common misconception is being real has to do with you and only you, no you’re being real with yourself so that you can be real with others. It’s the whole point. Anyone can get belligerent, mean, rude, or loud. But not everyone can admit their mistakes, set aside their own wants for a friend, or give someone they’re friends with the benefit of the doubt before judging or talking about them. Not everyone can go to a person and call them out on something they are doing wrong because they genuinely care about that individual. Being real is being selfless, knowing that even though they might get mad, you may not get what you want every time, or you might hurt a few feelings, you are doing it for a purpose, not just to be a bitch, or be spiteful or for personal gain. So think about it, are you really as REAL as you think? Or are you sitting around with an ignorant definition of what real is? I’m a true believer of karma and “you are the company you keep” so if you’re always surrounded by people who are faking on you, doing trifling stuff behind your back, or you find you can trust no one. You might want to evaluate yourself and your own actions. Treat people the way you want to be treated it’s the oldest philosophy in the book. Doing what’s real is doing what’s right. Now, how would you classify yourself? Real? Or do you still have some work to do? Just something to think about…..
