808s: Cypher gives Shine at BET HipHop Awards
UNEXPECTED ARTISTS SHINE IN CYPHER
Every year one of the things I look forward to most at the B.E.T. Hiphop awards are the Cyphers! A Cypher, for you none hiphop heads, is when a group of rappers freestyle one after the other in a non-battle format simply showcasing there skills. Throughout the show segments are show in black and white with up to six artist spitting bars. Most of the artist include well known rappers as well as those on the up-and-coming.
This years Cypher featured Everyone from Wiz Khalifa to female rapper Diamond. In total there were four segments, but the REAL buzz was about G.O.O.D. Music artist Big Sean, and Rev Run's son Diggy Simmons.
In the "Hall of Fame" section of the Cypher were Ice Cube and his two sons: OMG and Doughboy, as well as Rev Run and his two sons: JoJo and Diggy Simmons. They were featured in a sort of "Father passing the torch" segment. While Ice Cubes sons delivered average bars they were followed by Diggys attention grabbing first lines. "Yeah I'm only 15 but my 16's strong, so I'ma spit this quick 8 and let you feans get gone." He was just warming up later on in the clever 8bars, he had lines with the metaphorical mentions of LeBron James and Nicki Minaj. Twitter and Youtube were quickly all talk about the suprising skills of Rev Runs son.
By far the best Cypher of the night was Kanye's label G.O.O.D. Music, which featured Himself, Pusha T, Big Sean, Cyhi Da Prynce, and Common. Kanye started off with a freestyle introduction of each artist and the Cypher warmed up with Pusha T. But things really got hot when Big Sean began spitting bars. It seemed like line after line was ever more clever than the last."Who ever told you Skys the limit is looking dumb, cuz I'm 22 and I'm moonwalking on the Sun." But he didn't stop there. "Last year I was watching this from the couch, and now I'm here that should let you know what I'm about. Regal black suites cuz my whole teams killing, had to keep setting trends cuz your whole teams stealing." He was later on followed by Kanye who's verse was quite memorable as well.
Since the airing of B.E.T.'s HipHop awards the internet buzz of these two artist are already beginning to increase with fans constantly tweeting about the Cypher and "Diggy Simmons" becoming an item to "like" on Facebook. Now people are curious about what else these artist may have to offer. Diggy Simmons music can be found all over the internet such as his song "Great Expectations", a cut from Diggy's upcoming mixtape, Airborne. Which was featured on a AT&T commercial.
Earlier this year Big Sean released his latest Mixtape, Almost Famous Vol. 3, which has already generated a heavy buzz and features artist such as Bun B, Drake, Asher Roth, Tyga, and Curren$y. The most notable tracks are "What You Doing?(bullshxtin)" and "Memories" which he recently released a video for.
